David Powdrell, CPA, MST | Founder
David graduated from the University of Colorado-Boulder in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. In 1980 he and his new bride, Valerie, moved to Santa Barbara and David began work at a small CPA firm. He passed the CPA exam in 1985 and obtained his Masters of Science-Taxation in 1987. After a few years working as the personal CPA for a Fortune 500 CEO, he started his own firm, David Powdrell, CPA in 1990.
David has been an active volunteer for a number of nonprofit organizations and has served on the board of directors for Carpinteria Arts Center (chairman 2010-2019), Cottage Rehabilitation Hospital, Santa Barbara ChannelKeeper, Summer Solstice Celebration, Rotary Foundation and others. He founded the Santa Barbara Kayak Association and Carpinteria Photography Club.
He’s authored or co-authored 3 books and has had his photographs published in numerous international magazines. Photography, gardening and painting are David’s “happy places”. David is incredibly grateful that his wife and children are part of the business; each contributes a unique and valuable component to the team.
Valerie Powdrell | Office Manager
Valerie graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1980 with a degree in Exercise Physiology & Health, and a Secondary Teaching Credential in Physical Education. The summer after graduation she met and married the love of her life, David. They made their home in Santa Barbara, David’s favorite surfing spot.
As their family grew with two active children, Valerie found herself juggling her job and family. After ten years managing and teaching in the Health and Fitness industry, she joined David in establishing the CPA firm. This arrangement was ideal for our family, and she has been managing the office with precision, kindness, and a smile on her face since its inception.
When not working, Valerie can be found running on the beach, taking yoga classes, sipping wine at sunset, or planning the next family outing somewhere in the world.
Madison Powdrell-Tindula, CPA | Tax Preparer
Madison Powdrell is a Certified Public Accountant with nearly a decade of experience in both public and private accounting. Growing up, Madison loved helping her dad out in the office and she knew from an early age that she wanted to follow in his footsteps and become a CPA. While completing her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting at San Diego State University, Madison fell in love with sunny San Diego and has lived there ever since.
Immediately upon graduation from SDSU, Madison gained invaluable tax experience working at a well-known international accounting firm, where she simultaneously earned her CPA license. From there, Madison was hired as an accounting supervisor at a large commercial real estate investment firm where she expanded her knowledge into commercial real estate accounting and investment transactions. Finally, in 2017, Madison began working full time for the family business where she currently specializes in tax preparation for individuals and closely-held businesses.
Outside of work, you can find Madison painting or hanging out at the beach with her husband, Rob, and their Goldendoodle, Angie.
Keenan Powdrell | Tax Preparer
Keenan grew up surfing, skateboarding, and playing hockey in Goleta, CA. At age 15 he began assisting David with data input and simple tax return preparation. 20 years later he continues to grow his knowledge base in tax law and preparation and is a soon-to-be Enrolled Agent.
When he’s not working for the family business, Keenan works full time in the accounting and purchasing department at Santa Barbara’s largest flooring company.
In 2019, he and his wife Samantha welcomed a beautiful baby boy, Henry, to the family. The three of them enjoy neighborhood walks, beach outings, and, above all else, visits with Grandma and Grandpa.
